About four months ago I wrote a blog post about posting weekly….unfortunately I didn’t keep up with that, but allow me to update you on the “Life of CB” since then. Wednesday I officially completed my first semester of Seneca College’s Fashion Business Management program. It has been a busy three and a half months, but I’ve never been happier.
I’ve spent the past few years being obsessed with fashion, so obsessed that is that I could spend hours browsing websites like: Louis Vuitton, YSL, Gucci, Zara, H&M and Aritzia. It got to a point where I spend so much time on those website that i was able to point out what brand people’s clothing/accessories was and my mom would continuously say “Oh Catherine I really hope you knowing all this will get you somewhere in life.”
At that point we didn’t know I was going to decide to pursue an education in fashion, and I also didn’t know that i ony scratched the surface of knowing what fashion is. I soon learnt that it is WAY more than just knowing that someones bag is a Louis Vuitton Montaigne, or that someone else shoes are by Gucci.
Throughout the past three months I’ve learnt that the apparel industry is the 2nd largest industry in the world, it’s affected by almost everything, and that fashion is cyclical. So if a country is in a recession, people have less disposable income, therefore the apparel industry suffers, and hey those bell bottoms you wore in 99, save them! They’ll be back soon!
Tuesday, December 13th, my mom and I went to a Women of Influence event and the keynote speaker was Kim Newport Mimran, the mastermind behind Pink Tartan, and Joe Mimran’s (Joe Fresh) wife. Listening to her speak really reassured me that what I am learning at school is going to be useful! One day maybe that’ll be me!
I hope to have another post up before the new year, but no promises!
Anyways, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone! 💜
